Abiquiu lies in the Chama
River valley in Rio Arriba County of North
Central New Mexico. Once home to ancient
native tribes and later to Spanish settlers,
the magical, varied landscapes of the area
inspired the works of such artists as Georgia
O'Keeffe and Ansel Adams. Chama River weaves
through Abiquiu's rugged, multi-hued rock
formations and canyon topography. Cerro
Pedernal, the flat-topped remains of the
largest inactive volcano in the Southwest,
towers over the Chama River valley and contrasts
with the azure skies of New Mexico. With
its relaxed pace and beautiful surroundings,
Abiquiu is the perfect escape from the stresses
of everyday life.
